Grant Writer and Special Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a broadly experienced, self-motivated professional to direct the grants research, writing and tracking functions. 

Summary of Duties

Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following:

  • Identify and research new corporate, foundation and government grant opportunities.
  • Assemble and write all corporate, foundation and government grants in accordance with granting body’s guidelines and recognized formulas for successful proposals.
  • Obtain needed documentation, budgets, statistics, references and other materials or information as needed for all grants.  Work with other staff to ensure accuracy and relevance of all materials included in any grant.
  • Coordinate and ensure all reporting requirements are met for corporate, foundation and government grants. Ensure timely acknowledgement of all grant awards and appropriate recognition of all grantors. 
  • Assist with the cultivation and development of relationships with key constituents within the corporate, foundation and government grant community.
  • Develop and maintain a database and/or manual system to track grant deadlines, submissions and awards.
  • Responsible for reconciling grant revenue & expenses with accounting.
  • Perform other duties as required. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Education          

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field. 

Experience

  • Minimum five years grant writing experience.
  • 2 years experience in fundraising.
  • Successful track record securing corporate, foundation and government grants.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience developing successful written donor communications and marketing materials.  

Knowledge 

  • Excellent writing and word processing skills. Proficient in Access, Excel, or other spreadsheet/database programs.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • This position requires strategic thinking and strong project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and gain the respect and support of various constituencies. 
  • He or she must demonstrate initiative, discretion, mature judgment, and professionalism.
  • Must be flexible, diplomatic, and a good team-player, able to work in a fast-paced environment.
